AiR Helgeland

Location Helgeland, Stokkatunet

AiR Helgeland

The residency was initiated by ABH/ ArtBase Helgeland 66°N, Northern Norway in 2012 as a 3-year pilot project and has since then expanded its platform and network. The residency is by open call, invitation for a specific project or in collaboration with one of our partners.

Location: Stokkatunet / Alstenøya. Sandnessjøen, Stokka, is the nearest airport - Widerøe is the local operating airline.

Stokkatunet is a beautifully restored Nordlandshus from late 1700 and is privatly owned by Tanja and Jan Erik Stokka, our local AiR partner. On location you find ABH's alternative exhibition space and scene The Barn, which holds a large white 6 metres long screen and we have a professional projector and sound equipment available for the public presentation. Internet is available during your stay but it holds its own rhythm, i.e. if you need to upload/download larger files you will need patience. One day they flow fast and other days not, but for research and daily use its not a problem. Stokkatunet is located approximately 10 minutes from the town centre by car and 40 minutes by bicycle.

The residency includes a living and working space, as well as support of travel expenses up to 5000 NOK. The selection is by invitation or by open call - based on proposal for stay, artistic merits and the quality of artistic practice. It is expected that you present your artistic practice in an open studio day to inform and engage the local community or to organize a public presentation of the result of your proposed project towards the end of the residency. Applicants are expected to master the English language.

  • Personal information: full name, place and date of birth, all contact details

  • Proposal for stay and how you would go about relating your work to this context

  • CV

  • Examples of previous works/portfolio as pdf max 10mb, Video/sound work (max. 3 min)
